Work Featured in Tri-City Herald Newspaper

🔥 I'm thrilled to see our autonomous electron microscopy work featured in the latest Lab Director's column by Steven Ashby for the Tri-City Herald newspaper!

The path to the development of AutoEM started nearly 8 years ago with a conversation between Sarah Akers and me. Since then our team has grown to several dozen scientists, students, and interns over the years, including Matthew Olszta, Kevin Fiedler, bethany matthews, Kayla Yano, James Haag, and Christina Doty. It's been exciting to see its journey from an idea to a commercialized product being developed by JEOL Ltd.

The graph analytics work by Jenna Pope, Arman Ter-Petrosyan, and Mike Holden was recently published at the NeurIPS conference, highlighting the use of unsupervised machine learning for microstructural descriptors. Embedding such models into the on-the-fly operation of our instruments is the new frontier of scientific experimentation. More cool developments will be coming soon!
