Commentary on Next-Generation Microscopy Published in Nature Materials
Our commentary on the data-driven future of electron microscopy has just been published in Nature Materials! This paper emerged from our first Next-Generation Transmission Electron Microscopy (NexTEM) workshop, held at PNNL in October 2018.
In this article, we outline the present state-of-the-art and emerging paradigm in transmission electron microscopy based on the use of rich, multi-modal data streams. We advocate for the use of artificial intelligence tools to reimagine experimentation in the microscope and craft a vision for the new realm of scientific discoveries this will enable in energy, quantum computing, and metallurgy.
